Mt. Zion Scenic Overlook – Ironwood, Michigan
Just north of downtown Ironwood, a short drive up Mt. Zion leads to one of the most beautiful scenic viewpoints in Michigan’s western Upper Peninsula. The road climbs past Gogebic Community College and ends at an observation area where visitors can park, step out, and take in sweeping views of forests stretching toward Lake Superior. During peak fall color season, the hillsides burst with reds, oranges, and golds, creating a breathtaking panorama of autumn across the Gogebic Range.
At the summit, a handicap-accessible observation deck invites visitors to walk out and experience the view from above the surrounding forests. Built in 2016, the overlook includes seating, picnic tables, and ample parking, making it an easy and relaxing stop for travelers exploring the Ironwood area. From this vantage point, the landscape opens northward toward Lake Superior and the forests of Michigan and Wisconsin.
In the fall, Mt. Zion Ironwood Michigan becomes one of the best places to witness the changing colors of the Upper Peninsula. A quick drive to the top followed by a short walk around the observation deck offers a peaceful way to enjoy the crisp northern air and vibrant scenery.
